According to Wikipedia, we learn that
“Autumn Leaves” is a much-recorded popular song. Originally it was a 1945 French song “Les feuilles mortes” (literally “The Dead Leaves”) with music by Hungarian-French composer Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert, and the Hungarian title is “Hulló levelek” (Falling Leaves). Yves Montand (with Irène Joachim) introduced “Les feuilles mortes” in 1946 in the film Les Portes de la nuit.

Like all of the selections in the new 52 Song CHORD/MELODY eBook, AUTUMN LEAVES uses the thumb only. . . No fingerpicking is involved. The most distinctive aspect of this arrangement is that you not only have the chord/melody format but also a rhythmic pulse that keeps the piece moving forward. The use of chords strummed between the melody also help the ukulele sustain more. It is important to emphasize the melodic part and play down the intermediate chords. If everything is played at the same volume level, the piece will sound choppy. This piece needs to be played freely with lots of “RUBATO” .. . . Don’t rush . take the sections easy and the song
will have that sweet wistful feeling.
