P.S. I’ve made an extraordinary effort to make these arrangements accessible to many ukulele players of all levels. Many can be learned fairly easily for even newer players. Other pieces, of course, will be something one can grow into as more skills are developed. So often, I’ve found solo instrumental arrangements that are available in published form to be, for the most part, WAY beyond the abilities of average players. In arranging these pieces, I’ve constantly kept that in mind.

Official Video of the Beatle’s performance of “In My Life”
We learn from Wikipedia that “In My Life” is a song by the Beatles released on the 1965 album Rubber Soul, written mainly by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney. The song originated with Lennon, and while Paul McCartney contributed to the final version, he and Lennon later disagreed over the extent of his contributions (specifically the melody). George Martin, who produced the recording, contributed the instrumental bridge. It is ranked 23rd on Rolling Stone‘s “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time” as well as fifth on their list of the Beatles’ 100 Greatest Songs. The song placed second on CBC‘s 50 Tracks. Mojo magazine named it the best song of all time in 2000.
According to Lennon, the song’s origins can be traced to when the English journalist Kenneth Allsop made a remark that Lennon should write songs about his childhood. Afterwards, Lennon wrote a song in the form of a long poem reminiscing on his childhood years. The original version of the lyrics was based on a bus route he used to take in Liverpool, naming various sites seen along the way, including Penny Lane and Strawberry Field. Those original lyrics are on display at The British Library.
However, Lennon found it to be “ridiculous”, calling it “the most boring sort of ‘What I Did On My Holidays Bus Trip’ song”; he reworked the words, replacing the specific memories with a generalized meditation on his past. “Very few lines” of the original version remained in the finished song.[6] According to Lennon’s friend and biographer Peter Shotton, the lines “Some [friends] are dead and some are living/In my life I’ve loved them all” referred to Stuart Sutcliffe (who died in 1962) and to Shotton.
In a 1980 interview, Lennon referred to this song as his “first real major piece of work” because it was the first time he penned personal lyrics about his own life.
Regarding authorship of the melody, Lennon’s and McCartney’s recollections differ. Referring to McCartney, Lennon said “his contribution melodically was the harmony and the middle-eight itself.”[ McCartney claimed he set Lennon’s lyrics to music from beginning to end, taking inspiration for the melody from songs by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles. “I liked ‘In My Life’. Those were words that John wrote, and I wrote the tune to it. That was a great one.”
Below are the early attempts at writing the lyrics for “In My Life” in John Lennon’s own hand writing. . .

Although the controversy regarding authorship of the song will go on forever, I personally consider this song one of the finest personal musical statements by the BEATLES. It’s lyrics are touching and it’s songwriting craftsmanship is is beyond compare. I thoroughly enjoyed rendering this for solo ukulele performance and chose to use the current popular style of CHORD/MELODY in its arrangement. Here is a brief few measures to give you an idea of how it sounds. I have formatted this and all of the songs in my Chord Melody collections in both standard treble clef as well as Ukulele Tablature.
Here is one important tip I could give you regarding interpretation of TABLATURE. . . Notice in the 3rd measure the stacked notes that are all on the 2nd Fret of each of the strings. Typically, these would be played by BARRING across all 4 strings at the 2nd Fret. Further on in the piece here is another instance of BARRING. Although, at this point we are BARRING the 5th Fret

This arrangement is contained in the Chord/Melody eBook ONE.

In the Solo Fingerpicking eBook – – – – -AMAZING GRACE – Classic hymn arranged for solo ukulele by Ukulele Mike Lynch
UKULELE MIKE LYNCH - All things UKULELE
According to Wikipedia “Amazing Grace” is a Christian hymn with words written by the English poet and clergyman John Newton (1725–1807), published in 1779. With the message that forgiveness and redemption are possible regardless of sins committed and that the soul can be delivered from despair through the mercy of God, “Amazing Grace” is one of the most recognizable songs in the English-speaking world.
Newton wrote the words from personal experience. He grew up without any particular religious conviction, but his life’s path was formed by a variety of twists and coincidences that were often put into motion by his recalcitrant insubordination. He was pressed (forced into service involuntarily) into the Royal Navy, and after leaving the service became involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1748, a violent storm battered his vessel so severely that he called out to God for mercy, a moment that marked his spiritual conversion…

BRIAN BORU’S MARCH – A chord/melody arrangement explained with free downloadable tablature in PDF format
HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!!
UKULELE MIKE LYNCH - All things UKULELE
YOU TUBE PERFORMANCE OF BRIAN BORU’S MARCH
Brian Boru’s March is a traditional Irish tune.
Brian Boru was a High King of Ireland who founded the O’Brien dynasty.[1]
In 1969, the song was recorded by The Chieftains. Horslips used it in 1976, as the intro and basis for “Trouble (With a Capital T)” from the album The Book of Invasions
This a tune of great antiquity belonging to the class of tunes known as “clan
marches”, i.e. pieces that are the “property” of a particular family and are closely
associated with that family (the musical analogue to the Scots highland tartan
designs).
There is an excellent Wikipedia article on Brian Boru which makes it unnecessary
for me to go into great detail about him here. Born into a family of local chieftains
around 941, he was the “High King” of Ireland at the time of his defeat of the
“Danes”…

HIGH G or LOW G? . . . A discussion about the differences between High G and Low G tuning
UKULELE MIKE LYNCH - All things UKULELE

Low G Tuning . . . . Can we talk?
I’ve encountered literally hundreds of people worldwide who are “struggling” with the
Concept of Low G tuning on their ukuleles. I hope within this blog to clarify a few points . . .
FAQ
Q. Is Low G tuning superior to standard tuning?
A. Nope . . . it’s just a different tuning and a matter of preference. Major players use both tunings.
Q. Are some ukuleles built to Low G tuned . . .
A. No . . . its just a matter of changing out the 4th string from a High G to a Low G
Q. Do I have to purchase a different set of strings for Low G?
